Earth’s rapid warming has scientists aghast. Warming is now 35% faster than projections. Half of the Amazon will be gone by 2030. The Arctic lost 14% of its perennial sea ice last year. Greenland ice melt grew by 250% in 2 years. Antarctica is losing 36 cubic miles of ice a year.
And the Chesapeake Bay swallows 600 acres a year.
The 17 November IPCC report states succinctly that “The warming of the Earth’s climate system is unequivocal.” And that “Climate changes may be abrupt and irreversible.”

Historically, climate swings can occur in as little as a decade. We have reason to worry.
Dr. Pachauri, Head of the IPCC, declared “there is not time. 2012 is too late. What we do in the next 2-3 years will determine our future.” “This is our defining moment.”
Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon stated “Slowing--and reversing--these threats are the defining challenge of our age.” And “The world's scientists have spoken, clearly and in one voice,"
Gov. O’Malley has stated “The climate crisis is real, and while it threatens our shorelines today, its causes and symptoms threaten life on our planet in the generations ahead unless we act [now].”
At Bali, Australia signed Kyoto, and received a prolonged ovation. The United States is now the only dissenter.
Today the Washington Post and Aljazeera reported that since day one the White House has been systematically manipulating scientific data to mislead the public and policymakers about the dangers of global warming.
Lacking federal leadership, our county requires sagacious leaders. It’s your watch. Be not afraid of greatness; it is being thrust upon you. THIS is your time to shine. To meet the growing climate threat you must act decisively.

Your first act is issue a public statement that climate change represents a very real threat, and all citizens of QAC must take immediate actions to conserve energy, reduce GHG, and increase efficiency.
As a citizen, on behalf of the planet and all life on Earth, I beseech you and all citizens to reduce fossil fuel use immediately.
Please, now, businesses, residents, and government, turn all thermostats to 68 degrees or lower. Turn off nonessential lighting and install timers and motion sensors. Learn all the steps to reduce energy use, and think hard about the energy you use.
For ways to reduce pollution and expense there are a plethora of sources. If you need help, call us at 410-827-0276.

Mankind now controls the climate. So you now choose the world your children will enjoy, or endure.

Thank you.
